Student Health Insurance

The college encourages students who do not have health insurance through a group plan (parents, spouse, employer sponsored, etc.) to consider obtaining individual health insurance coverage.

Student health insurance coverage is especially important for Nursing and Health Professions students in clinical settings, since the clinical site customarily requires health insurance.

A list of student healthcare insurance providers and a sampling of brochures are available from the Campus Dean for Student Services office on each campus.

When selecting a health insurance plan, students are encouraged to obtain a complete explanation of costs and benefits provided, to include:

  • any exclusions or limitations
  • whether use of a defined group of physicians is required
  • plan maximum, deductibles and co-pays
  • any out of pocket annual maximum
  • pregnancy coverage

While Tidewater Community College does not endorse any particular health insurance plan, the College encourages your review of these offerings in light of your individual circumstances. Tidewater Community College does not offer any legal advice regarding health insurance.

Health problems

Advise your instructors when you first attend classes if you have any health problems that may affect your attendance, learning, or personal safety. Notify the Dean for Student Services if you have health problems that may create difficulties outside the classroom. If you have chronic health problems or disabilities, seek help from Disabilities Services
