Networking is an essential part of business and is critical in the nonprofit world. But, few of us have the know-how to put this essential tool to work for us and our organizations. When you meet someone, what two things can you do to build trust? What is the biggest mistake you can make when describing networking? What are three ways to teach someone to remember your name? How do you make yourself memorable? Belinda Willis will answer these questions and many more as she teaches you to develop and refine networking skills.

Nonprofits are faced with trying to find their place in a MySpace world. From Facebook to the e-book, twitter to flickr, podcasts to webcasts, the platforms for delivering and expanding your nonprofit’s reach continue to explode. Nancy Schwartz, who writes the Getting Attention blog about nonprofit marketing, will share her insights. In this practical and informative introduction to the Web 2.0 world, you’ll learn ways your nonprofit can effectively use new media to market itself. You’ll enter this class with a host of questions (a prerequisite), and leave with a plan for putting the right social media tools to work for your organization.

With decreases in grants from foundations and government, nonprofit organizations must find alternative funding methods to continue their work. One option to consider is social enterprise.  This course will provide you a solid overview to help you explore new ventures for your nonprofit that can provide it a stream of unrestricted funds.  You will learn about market changes and trends, successful social enterprises and how to prepare for a new enterprise. Case studies will help give you ideas for thinking out of the box about your nonprofit.

TWO DAY SESSIONS

New CEOs: Moving from Surviving to Thriving (Click here for registration form)

If you are like most new nonprofit executive directors, you find leading your nonprofit to be rewarding but challenging.  This two-day course will teach strategies and skills to help new executive directors like you become effective leaders.  Topics include understanding the nonprofit culture; roles of the executive director, board and staff; sound financial management; and leadership development.  This course is open to anyone but is targeted toward nonprofit executive directors with two years or less experience in their current positions.

Leadership through Influence: Making Change Work for You

This workshop will help you deal positively with workplace changes.  Part 1 will provide tools to help you and others in your organization cope with change. You will learn to adapt to change yourself while helping other staff members.  Part 2 will address personal influence and help you increase your staff’s commitment to new ideas, suggestions and directives.  You will learn to communicate new ideas with credibility, confidence and clarity.  This class will explore why some people are more influential than others and focus on building new skills to help you to adapt to change and help others on your staff do the same.

Grantsmanship 101: Understanding the Basics (Click here for registration form)

This course will introduce the fundamentals of grant writing and proposal development so you and your organization will be comfortable applying for funding from a variety of sources.  You will learn the basics, including grant-writing strategies, locating funding sources, matching sources with agency needs, developing a case for funding, budget development and measuring outcomes. The course will include some exercises to provide you with practical experience.

Development 101: Mastering the Fundamentals (Click here for registration form)

This course will equip you with a solid foundation in the basics of fundraising. You will learn new strategies to help you develop a stable funding base for your organization. You will explore new funding sources, learn what makes a successful fundraising program and understand what motivates donors to want to support your nonprofit.  Hands-on exercises will help you prepare to improve your organization’s donor base.
